Does he follow through? You bet. Interview With the Vampire NEW TrailerDramaAMC 10p
A series adaptation of the Anne Rice novel that was previously turned into a 1994 movie, this Interview comes from Perry Mason‘s Rolin Jones. Sam Reid stars as the vampire Lestat (the role played by Tom Cruise in the film), while Game of Thrones vet Jacob Anderson plays Louis (aka the Brad Pitt role), Eric Bogosian takes on the role of ournalist Daniel Molloy (that was Christian Slater in the movie), and future Avatar sequels star Bailey Bass portrays Claudia (the Kirsten Dunst role). The Alan Taylor-directed first of eight episodes airs tonight, though AMC+ subscribers can stream the second episode as well today. Expect many more Anne Rice adaptations in the future: AMC has acquired rights to 18 of the author’s books (in the Mayfair Witches series in addition to the Vampire Chronicles franchise), so more series and films will follow under the guidance of Breaking Bad producer Mark Johnson at a rate of 1-2 new titles per year.

Nothing Compares MOVIE TrailerDocumentaryShowtime 10p
Belfast native Kathryn Ferguson heads south of the border to find the subject for her first feature-length documentary: Irish singer-songwriter Sinéad O’Connor, whose early pop stardom in the late 1980s gave way to increasing controversy and activism (as well as a more under-the-radar continuing music career). Nothing Compares focuses on the first half of that description: O’Connor’s rise to fame following a difficult childhood and her first, often misunderstood, attempts to take on the establishment. The result divided critics a bit when Nothing Compares debuted at Sundance early this year, but reviews were positive overall. Subscribers can also stream the film a few days early (starting 9/30) on Showtime’s apps.

Westworld creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan return with another sci-fi series, this time based on a William Gibson novel (and adapted by Scott B. Smith rather than Joy and Nolan, who merely produce). Finally emerging out of a four-year development period, The Peripheral stars Chloë Grace Moretz as Flynne Fisher, a woman struggling with an ill mother and a flailing career in a small rural town in near-future America who gets an unexpected opportunity to escape to a far more exciting life via an experimental new VR device. But is what happens in VR (including a shocking murder) merely a simulation, as she first thinks—or is it somehow real? Jack Reynor, Gary Carr, and Alexandra Billings also star. New episodes stream weekly, and there should be plenty of material for future seasons if necessary: Gibson’s book is part of a trilogy.

Origiinally ordered by Netflix in 2018 under the title 10 After Midnight, this episodic horror anthology comes from acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro (The Shape of Water, Pan’s Labyrinth), whose only previous live-action TV series is The Strain (though he also has the animated Trollhunters at Netflix). Del Toro himself developed the stories for two of the eight episodes (others are a mix of original concepts and adaptations of stories by H.P. Lovecraft and other authors), and though he isn’t among the roster of directors on the series, a number of recognizable names are, including Ana Lily Amirpour (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night), Jennifer Kent (The Babadook), Panos Cosmatos (Mandy), Vincenzo Natali (Cube), and Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight). Cast members include Andrew Lincoln, Peter Weller, Eric Andre, Rupert Grint, Nia Vardalos, David Hewlett, Essie Davis, Glynn Turman, F. Murray Abraham, Sofia Boutella, Steve Agee, Tim Blake Nelson, Kate Micucci, Charlyne Yi, and Crispin Glover.
